How to apply

1. Last thing in the morning, once the cream has settled. Squeeze the whole amount out first, about two finger-lengths for face and neck.
2. Put it on in two passes rather than one, giving each a moment to settle.
3. It goes on white, as all zinc does, and sheers out as you work it in.
4. Fifteen to thirty minutes before you go out.

💡Our tips

• Squeeze the whole amount out before you start. It is the only reliable way to use enough.
• A mineral filter sits on the skin rather than sinking into it, which is the point of it and also why water alone will not shift it. Remover first, then the cleanser.
• The finish is even and slightly blurring. Most mornings you will not want anything over it.

22.24% zinc oxide

The only UV filter in the formula. One mineral covering both UVB and UVA, at the level that earns SPF 50+.

A fermented centella complex

Centella asiatica is the plant behind cica, and its four best-known compounds are all here: madecassoside, asiaticoside, madecassic acid and asiatic acid.

Rice and fermentation

Four ingredients from rice and fermentation run through every formula we make: a sanghwang mushroom ferment, a Lactobacillus postbiotic, rice bran water and rice bran extract.

The parts milling throws away

The germ holds two-thirds of the nutrition in a grain of rice, and the bran, where our extract comes from, almost another third. White rice is what is left over, about five per cent.

From Gochang in Korea

The whole county of Gochang is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and that is where our rice ferment comes from. Sanghwang mushroom grown on brown rice sprouted in mineral water, then fermented and filtered through cloth.

What the bacteria leave behind

Lactobacillus does the fermenting and is then removed; a lysate is what stays, and unlike a live culture it keeps. Skin carries bacteria of its own, and this is here with that in mind.

Older than any ingredient list

Migamsu, the water left from washing rice, has been used on the face in Korea for centuries. Ours is drawn from the bran itself, and it carries vitamins B1, A and E.

Found in a desert salt lake

Ectoin was found in 1985 in microbes living in Wadi El Natrun, a salt lake in the Egyptian desert, where surviving the sun is the whole job. It gathers water around itself and settles skin. A molecule with that address seemed to belong in a sunscreen.

The second ferment in the formula

Centella has been used on skin across Asia for centuries. This version is fermented with Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which makes it the second ferment in the bottle, after the rice.

Not from the grain

These amino acids do not come from the grain. Rice callus, a cultured mass of undifferentiated rice cells, is broken down by enzymes into free amino acids. Same plant as the rest of the routine, arrived at a different way. They hold water and work as an antioxidant.

Once called knitbone

Allantoin was first drawn from the root of comfrey, a plant whose old country name was knitbone. It is here to soothe.
